Information about us

The seed for Amanda On The Veranda was sown when we moved from a house in beautiful County Meath, with a large garden, to a Dublin Docklands city centre apartment with 2 balconies. We wanted to continue to grow flowers, plants and herbs, but didn't want to clutter up our valuable balcony floor area with random plant containers. We thought of hanging window boxes outside the balcony but soon discovered window boxes need a lot of water, most of which leaks out of drainage holes - not very pleasant for anyone on a balcony or passing by underneath!  On a visit to Sweden, we came across the perfect solution. Window boxes, with integrated irrigating systems, without drainage holes and, most importantly, with large water reservoirs cutting down dramatically on the need for watering.  They also have indicators which let you know when you need to water!   From this, and our interest in plants and design, sprouted the idea for our Amanda On The Veranda business.

Five years on, and the small seed of our original idea has grown upwards and spread outwards to cover Balcony and City garden planning and design, Interior container plantings, Commercial container plantings and personalised plant maintenance programmes.

Our objective is to provide creative, low-maintenance solutions for your interior and exterior areas. No space is too small not to benefit from our products and ideas.   We specialise in providing specimen plants, in wow-factor containers, with the option of incorporating integrated irrigation systems into each container.  Your plants can then happily exist, with minimal attention, while you are away on business or on holidays for up to 10 weeks at a time (depending on container type and size).
